Abia Gov Ikpeazu Sacked:INEC ISSUES CERTIFICATE OF RETURN TO MR UCHE OGAH

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has advanced reasons for its decision to issue a Certificate of Return to Mr Uche Ogah who came second at the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Abia State.

INEC National Commissioner in charge of the South East, Amb. Lawrence Nwuruku said the commission only kowtowed to the lawful order of the court.

He said if the court tomorrow orders a reversal of the action, INEC would not hesitate to do its bidding. "The situation is that we are simply obeying the court order.

The court said with immediate effect without wasting of time, We should issue him Certificate of Return and that is what we have done - to obey the court order. If the court tomorrow issues another order, we would obey the same. 

By the grace of God, I am the INEC Commissioner in charge of South East, I'll do the same thing if the court orders us to do so. If court says we should issue the same certificate to another person. 

In this case, court ordered us to issue a Certificate of Return to the person who won the election and that is Uche Ogah. I was the person who gave the Certificate of Return to Gov. Ikpeazu as he was declared winner.

Speaking in the same vein, INEC’s Director of Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzi, had earlier stated that the decision followed an order by an Abuja Federal High Court directing INEC to immediately issue Certificate of Return to Mr. Ogah.

Justice Okon Abang of the court had on Monday asked INEC to issue the Certificate of Return issued to Mr Ogah. Justice Abang, had ruled that on the account of fake tax returns during the primaries, Mr Ikpeazu, ab initio was never qualified to run in the PDP primaries as a governorship candidate.

He consequently ordered the Chief Judge of the state to swear in Uche Ogah as the substantive Governor of Abia State.

GAY MEN ATTACKED IN COTE D’IVOIRE

Six gay men were attacked in Cote d’Ivoire and forced to flee their homes after they were pictured signing a condolence book for the victims of the recent attack at a gay night club in Orlando, Florida early this month.

The U.S. embassy in the country had hosted an event a fortnight agobto honor the Florida victims and published a photo of the six men on its website with the caption: ‘LGBT community signing the condolence book’.

Days after the tribute, one of the men in the photo was attacked by a mob in his neighbourhood. Another man in the picture was also attacked after the photo was circulated on Facebook and other websites.

The others were verbally abused. All six of them have fled their homes for fear of further attack on them.

ELECHI AMADI DOES AT 82

ONE of Africa's finest novelist, poet and dramatist Captain Elechi Amadi died Wednesday at the Good Heart hospital in Port Harcourt at the age of 82.

A member of the family , Bar Wabueze Amadi, confirmed the development to the Vanguard newspaper on phone, saying he passed on at about 3: 45pm at the hospital.

The late captain Elechi Amadi was among the first generation of African writers and novelists. Some of his works include The Concubine, The Great Ponds, Isiburu, Sunset in Biafra, Dance of Johannesburg, Peppersoup, The Road to Ibadan, The Slave , Estrangement and the Woman of Calaber.

He celebrated his 80th birthday in Port Harcourt, in 2014 releasing a souvenir edition of one of his plays, Isiburu to mark his 80th birthday. Born on 12 May, 1934 in Aluu community, Ikwerre local government area.

He attended Government college , Umuahia and went to the University college, Ibadan where he bagged a BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics.
He served in the 3rd Marine Commandos of the Nigerian Army.

He was first Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers state and also served as Commissioner for Lands and Housing.

He had several honours to his credit. He was Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Education and a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria .

 He was awarded a honorary doctorate degree by the University of Port Harcourt in 2011.

He was a well known author, publisher, soldier and statesman who was concerned about a better
society.

Argentina begs Messi not to quit

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona and the country’s President Mauricio Macri urged Lionel Messi on Monday not to leave the national team despite his vow to quit after a humiliating defeat.

The Barcelona superstar left the field in tears after missing a spot-kick in the Copa America Centenario final shootout against Chile on Sunday.

He promptly told reporters he was quitting, throwing Argentine football into turmoil ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“He has to stay because he still has playing days ahead of him,” Maradona was quoted as saying by La Nacion newspaper online.

“He will go to Russia in form to be world champion.”

Messi, 29, is widely rated as the best player in the world, but Sunday’s loss was his fourth defeat in an international final for Argentina.

After an outpouring of disappointment by fans online, Macri joined the calls for the Barcelona superstar to stay with Argentina.

“He called him and told him how proud he feels of the national team’s performance and asked him not to listen to the criticism,” a spokesman for Macri told AFP by telephone.

Nigerian DJ obi on Guinness World Records bid; "How I almost quit"

DJ Obi, on Monday, took to Instagram to talk about his near nervous break experience as he has set out to beat the Guinness Book of Records feat for the longest DJ set which spans 200 hours and was set on November 19, 2014 in Ireland.

He was on his fifth day out of the 10 days set and has to go for 240 hours to beat the old record. But alas, DJ Obi is feeling the pressure.

He began the quest at Sao Café, Lekki in Lagos around 10pm on Wednesday, and he is scheduled to continue DJing till 10pm on the first of July. He is only allowed 20 minutes break every four hours.

Angry Policemen Burn Man’s P*nis With Fire For R*ping 4-year-old Girl

Three policemen have shocked locals by using a fire log to burn the p*nis of a man after he r*ped a 4-year-old girl. 

A r*pist has been left with a damaged p*nis after he was severely punished by some policemen for r*ping a 4-year-old girl. 

The man’s private parts was set on fire by the bitter police officers. The officers, it is believed did the act as punishment on the pervert.

However, the three policemen have been dragged before a court. William Maromo 45, Charles Muzenda 25, Bonzo Philip, this week, appeared before Gutu magistrate Edwin Marecha facing assault charges. 

The incident happened in Zimbabwe. They were remanded out of custody on $100 bail each to 30 June for continuation of trial. The three were arrested after the r*pe suspect, Washington Togo, aged 19, revealed during his initial appearance in court that he was tortured by the officers. 

Prosecutor Agatha Gabriel told the court that on 7 June this year, the trio arrested Togo at village 5 Mushaviri farm in Gutu.

They reportedly assaulted the suspect several times all over the body and under his feet using a wooden stick for allegedly raping his neighbour’s four-year-old child.

Court heard that the trio then used a burning log to burn Togo’s genitals after being horrified by the sight of the abused child.

 According to the prosecutor, the assault took place before Togo was taken to Gutu Police Station and had to be taken for medical attention under police guard. 

Meanwhile, Togo denied raping the minor when he appeared before the same magistrate and was remanded in custody to 29 June for trial. He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

How to Change Contact Pictures in Android

You know what’s not cool? Having that default block letter as a contact picture for your favorite contacts in your phone. They’re your favorites! Your besties, your husband or wife, even your kids. C’mon guys, they deserve better than the first letter of their first name. It’s up to you to make this right. But don’t fret—we’re here to help. It’s kinda what we do.

Before we get started, it’s worth pointing out that this process may vary slightly between manufacturers. Since all the big ones—Samsung, LG, Huawei, etc.—all do their own thing where the dialer is concerned, it may look slightly different depending on what model you’re using. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to figure out what to do once you get started, because the contacts portion of most dialers isn’t that different.

Okay, ready? Let’s do this thing.

The first thing you’ll want to do is open the dialer (also known as the “Phone” app). From there, just find the contact you’d like to add/change the picture for.

 This is the part where things may vary depending on your handset. On most phones, you tap the picture itself to open the contact card. The primary exemption here is in the Favorites list on Samsung and Stock Android phones: tapping the image will call the contact. You’ll need to tap the little “i” on Samsung phones, or the three-dot overflow menu button on stock phones. In the full contact list, however, you can still just tap the picture. It’s stupid, really.

Once on the contact card page, hit the “Edit” button—it may say the word “edit,” or it may just be a pencil icon. Either way, it should be in the upper right corner. Out of the phones I tested, the Huawei Honor 5X was the only one that had it in a different place—it’s at the bottom. Still, it 

should be pretty clear which icon to tap.

This is the menu where you can edit everything dealing with that particular contact, not just the picture. But changing the image is pretty easy: just tap it. Tapping the picture will open an edit edit menu where you can take a new picture or select one from the Gallery, then crop it to your liking.

 

Once chosen, it will show up in the contact’s card.

Will Placing a MacBook in a Refrigerator to Cool It Down Damage It?

All of us have had problems with our devices getting hot from time to time, but desperation to ease or solve the problem may lead to some unorthodox solutions. With that in mind, today’s SuperUser Q&A post has the answers to a worried reader’s questions.

SuperUser reader kenorb wants to know if placing a MacBook in a refrigerator to cool it down will damage it:

I have a longstanding problem with my laptops (MacBook Air and Pro) overheating, especially during hot summer days. I have found that keeping them in a refrigerator for half an hour makes a dramatic difference in their performance. However, I am afraid of the side effects and that the laptops may stop working because of moisture getting into the internal parts.
How safe is it to put a laptop in a refrigerator? Is keeping it in a sleeve case or a plastic bag enough to protect the laptop? Does the temperature and time spent in a refrigerator also matter (i.e. half an hour is an optimal time)? Is it a bad idea overall and can it quickly damage the laptop (assuming it is in Sleep mode so that it is basically turned off)?

Will placing a MacBook in a refrigerator to cool it down damage it?

The Answer

SuperUser contributors Cand3r, Peter, and mycowan have the answer for us. First up, Cand3r:

The concern is not really the time during which your laptop is in the refrigerator, but after you take it out. The cold laptop/parts will pull water out of the air after it is taken out of the refrigerator, even if it was in a plastic bag. Think of a glass of water. It does not “sweat” while it is in the refrigerator, but if you take it out on a hot day it does.
The other concern is, depending on the temperature difference you are “creating”, some extra wear and tear on the components due to the expanding and contracting of parts.
The only thing I can think of to recommend is getting a laptop dock with fans built into it to help move air around the laptop.

As others have already said, you are killing your laptop with the condensation. Some better solutions are:

• You say the laptop is still under warranty. Use the warranty.
• Use bottled air to clean the fans without opening the laptop up (and voiding the warranty).
• Search Google for laptop cooling pads. The ones with larger fans make less noise.

And our final answer from mycowan:

I had a similar overheating problem with my MacBook where the fan was always spinning away. My solution was to freeze an ice pack, wrap it in a tea towel to absorb moisture, and then sit my MacBook on that.

After a few minutes, the fan stopped and my MacBook was happily cooled.

SHIRT WITH JOHN LENNON’S BLOOD SOLD FOR N9MILLION PLUS!

A SHIRT stained with John Lennon’s blood from the night he was murdered has been sold for £31,000 (over N9million naira; depending on how much your pounds cost.

Concierge Jay Hastings was wearing the white shirt as part of his uniform at the Dakota building in New York when Lennon was shot by deranged fan Mark Chapman.

The former Beatle stumbled through the door and Mr Hastings rushed to help him.

Some of Lennon’s blood then soaked into his shirt, still visible today on the chest and sleeves.

The piece of memorabilia was sold on Saturday by the former porter and smashed its £7,000 estimate.

Mr Hastings had a good working relationship with Lennon and Yoko Ono – also included in the sale is a copy of the album Double Fantasy signed “To Jay, Love John Lennon Yoko Ono”.

50 Cent arrested for P.I.M.P the St. Kitts Music Festival.

Curtis Jackson a.k.a 50 Cent’s was arrested after his performance at the St. Kitts Music Festival in the carribean last weekend.

50 as he is also known found himself in a courthouse after getting arrested for using “indecent language,” which is prohibited by law, during a performance on Saturday night.

While performing “P.I.M.P.,”  on of his greatest hit from his “get rich or die trying” album, 50 — who had been warned not to use profanity, according to TMZ — sang the word “motherf*****” several times in front of 40,000 concertgoers.

He was formally arrested and charged for the offense of “making use of indecent language” during his performance, according to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police force.

According to police, he had surrendered his travel documents ahead of a court appearance today, Monday 27th of june but his rep tells Yahoo that the issue is already resolved — and he’s headed back to the U.S.

“Mr. Jackson was only booked to host the show,” explained his spokeswoman, Amanda Ruisi. “When he arrived at the festival, organizers asked him to perform, he obliged, and used the DJ they had there. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the clean version to his tracks, so there were profanities used during his performance.

 The show was a great success, and he will make sure for future trips to St. Kitts that he leaves the ‘motherf*****s’ in the United States.” She added, “He went to court today and paid a fine and is on his way home.”

50 Cent, who has had several serious run-ins with the law in his life, isn’t the first performer to be arrested for using bad words on the island. In 2003, DMX was arrested for using profanity at the same music festival.

ROBBERS ON Rampage!

Actor and President of Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) Fred Amata was, robbed at gun point on Saturday the 25th of June.

According to his friend and colleague, Matthias
Obahiagbon, who narrated the sad incident on Facebook, Fred was on his way back from
business dinner, and was already waiting for the gate of his street to be opened when 4 gunmen attacked him holding him captive in his car as they drive off.

They stripped him of some valuables and play him go with his cloths in after he pleaded with them.

Luckily the police drove him home in a patrol vehicle at almost 3am.

A report of his stolen vehicle has been made to
the police; a signal already sent across Lagos state; one of his many phone lines retrieved; and a phone bought for easy communication."

In a similar development but down south in South Africa, popular make up artist and entrepreneur from Nigeria Bimpe Onokoya and her husband were robbed at gunpoint almost immediately the landed in the country.

Bimpe who want on her IG page narrated:
"My hubby and I were robbed at gun point this morning in Jo'burg, less than 1 hour after touch down, they crossed our car, four guys came out armed to the teeth with sophisticated looking guns,
they emptied us, took everything, my makeup box, my camera and lenses, 2 Mac laptops, all our clothes, our international passports, so right now we don't have identity in a foreign land, the police have been wonderful to us, but Nigerian Consulate is a story for another day , still trying to find a solution to this mess!!! #strandedinjoburg".
Thank God no life was lost. May God help us all!.

WORLD UGLIEST DOG

 A wrinkled, wispy-haired, bony Chinese
crested Chihuahua named Sweepee Rambo has claimed the title of The world’s ugliest dog.

The  17 years old dog, which is blind in both eyes and weighs four pounds, was a crowd favorite at
the contest, which was held on Friday night at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif.

The audience went wild for the blue-eyed dog,
with some people carrying signs that read,
“Sweepee for president”.

Ms. Spencer, the contest manager  identified the owner as Jason Wurtz of Encino, Calif.

He was swarmed by reporters — some from as far away as France and Germany — on Friday night and was not immediately available to comment, she said.

In his contest entry, he expressed appreciation
for Sweepee’s “baby-soft freckled skin and
legendary blond Mohawk.” Sweepee, described
as a “ride or die chick,” enjoys riding with her
owner on his Honda motorcycle, the entry said.

The winner last year was Quasi Modo , who had
short spine syndrome, a birth defect. To look at
anything, Quasi had to move her entire body
because she could not move her head, the dog’s
owner, Virginia Sayre, told The Guardian .

Of the 16 dogs in this year’s contest — some
with names like Icky, Rue, Roast Beef and
Rascal Deux — more than half featured bad
hair.

One in particular, Himisaboo , was drawing
attention for a head of hair that had a striking
resemblance to Donald J. Trump, the
presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

The contest, which has been hosted by the fair
for 28 years, is run similar to a beauty pageant,
Ms. Spencer said. Contestants walk a red
carpet, they are introduced to the audience and
they are paraded onstage.

Three judges awarded points based on the
dogs’ personalities, appearances and how the
audience reacted.

Like all good contests, this one has strict rules.
Among them: “animal must not have been
intentionally altered to enhance appearance for
the purpose of this contest.”

PRISON BREAK!!.. How two notorious kidnappers escaped from kuje prison.

Two notorious kidnappers who abducted and killed a society lady, Mrs. Edith Chinedu Aliyu, have escaped from the Medium Prisons, Kuje, Abuja, in a daring jailbreak on Friday evening. This is as some prisoners rioted over the sharing of alcohol in the Kirikiri Female Prison in Lagos.

It was gathered that the two Kuje inmates, Maxwell Ajukwu and Solomon Amodu, used a plank to scale the high wall of the prisons while Muslim inmates were breaking their Ramadan fast at 7pm.

Our correspondent gathered that the two escapees were part of a gang who abducted the lady and killed her after raping her.

The daring escape set off reports that the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, Charles Okah, had escaped from the Kuje Prisons, but the Prisons Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, described these as untrue.

Our correspondent gathered that one of the escaped inmates, Ajukwu, converted to Islam some weeks ago, apparently to exploit the lax security system in the prisons during the ongoing Ramadan fast.

A security source said, “The two kidnapping suspects escaped and left their colleague behind. What happened was that one of them, from the South-East, converted to Islam some weeks ago while in prison when he observed that the prison officers allowed Muslim inmates to stay late against standard prisons rules.

“Normally, the inmates are locked up in their cells by 5pm every day, but the prison authorities decided to extend the time till 8pm to enable the inmates break their fast and pray.

“Preliminary findings show that the two inmates escaped at a point near the chapel in the prisons, which was usually guarded by a prison officer, but he (the officer) did not come to work on Friday and nobody was posted to secure the place.”

Meanwhile, another source, a top prison official, who spoke with SUNDAY PUNCH on condition of anonymity, said the Kuje inmates exploited a “weakness” in the prison system.

He said, “Normally, inmates are not supposed to be outside beyond 6pm to 6.30pm daily. But the officer in charge of that prison, who takes money from the inmates, allows them stay till 9pm or 10pm.

“What happened was that some of the inmates, who had studied the lapses, decided to use them to plot their escape when it was dark. After they finished breaking their fast on Friday, they put up a ladder on the wall and jumped out. They had fled before the management noticed.”

IPOB launches ‘Biafrexit, blasts David Cameron

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has officially announced the launching of ‎’BIAFREXIT’ as its campaign slogan.

Daily Post reports that Barrister Emma Nmezu and Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya, the spokespersons of the group, announced this in a statement issued on Saturday, June 25.In a statement titled “There must be ‘BIAFREXIT’ in line with the just concluded ‘BREXIT’”,

 IPOB congratulated the people of Britain and applauded the government for respecting the wishes of its citizens.

The group also called on the British government to guide President Muhammadu Buhari and hiscolleagues to organize a BIAFREXIT in Nigeria.

However, IPOB criticized British Prime Minister David Cameron of exhibiting hypocritical attitude towards the Biafran course.

It smacks of hypocrisy that the same David Cameron that initiated the BREXIT vote has been propping up the Buhari‘s government in their murderous acts of suppressing the quest by Biafrans to exit from Nigeria.

This leaves Biafrans to ask if David Cameron’s hypocrisy is because Biafrans are blacks and if black Africans are inferior to white British people?“

Why does David Cameron think that what is good for the white British people is not good for the black people of Africa especially Biafrans?

Mr. David Cameron, in organizing BREXIT is taking advantage of the rights of people to make their choice.

“But in denying Biafrans the right to choose their own nation, David Cameron is telling Biafrans that they are inferior because of the colour of their skin.

David Cameron is directly telling Biafrans that because they come from an inferior race, they do not deserve to exist asa nation of their own choice.

There are indications that Scotland will restart their agitation for separation from Britain and both David Cameron and his would-be successorwill not stop them nor will they roll out tanks and other lethal weapons to mow down the Scotslike the British-supported Nigeria has been doing to Biafra.

Resident Doctors Suspend Nationwide Strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide indefinite strike which commenced on June 20.

President of the association, Dr Mohammad Askira, made the disclosure on Saturday in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the association’s National Executive Council meeting held on Friday.

He said that the strike was suspended to enable the federal government implement the agreement reached with the association on or before July 14, adding that the doctors would resume work on July 27.

He said that the meeting also resolved to review the progress of government intervention at the next NEC meeting of the association scheduled for July 25 to 30 in Keffi for appropriation action.

SILVERBIRD IN DEBT; AMCON To take over

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria
(AMCON) this morning has taken over Silverbird
Galleria, the popular mini mall belonging to Senator BenMurray Bruce.

This follows a court order allowing AMCON to take
over three of the politician’s assets –
 Silverbird Productions Limited,
 Silverbird Showtime Limited and
Silverbird Galleria Limited

This is due to failure to settle an N11 billion loan.
The properties include those at 133, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, Plot No 1161 (Silverbird Galleria), the plaza at Central Area Cadastral Zone,Abuja, and a building located at Abonnema Wharf Road and Abali Park in PortHarcourt.

Ben Murray-Bruce, his brothers, Guy Murray-Bruce,Michael Murray-Bruce, Roy Murray-Bruce and his son,  Jonathan Murray-Bruce are listed as defendants in a suit over the loan default.

Mr. Murray Bruce and his brothers, using their
companies, had between 2005 and 2007 borrowed various sums of money from Union Bank.

After they repeatedly defaulted in paying back,
AMCON purchased the loan in 2011 to save the bank from collapsing. AMCON is now seizing the assets as the loans are still unpaid, 5 years later.

The takeover follows the June 17 interim orders
granted by Justice Cecilia Olatoregun-Ishola of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in Suit No. FHC/L/
