Rafael Nadal Wins Olympic Gold For Spain – Spain duo of Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopezhave won the gold medal in the Men’s Double tennis at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Nadal and Lopez defeated Romania’s Florin Mergea and Horia Tecau  6-2 3-6 6-4 to give Spain it’s 3rd gold medal of the Rio Olympics.
America’s Steve Johnson and Jack Sock beat Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil 6-2 6-4 in the 3rd place match to win the bronze medal.
“It is a privilege to be able to share this moment with one of my best friends,” Nadal said after his victory with Lopez. The former world number 1, meanwhile, faces Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles tennis competition on Saturday. “I will be at a disadvantage, but the scheduling is just something you have to accept,” he said.
Nadal, who has struggled with injuries for the latter part of his career, revealed he was pleased he was able to make the Olympics and win at it. “Just 25 days ago I couldn’t even train,” Nadal said, whose last competitive game had been at the Roland Garros in May.
