SAD! Days After Keshi’s Death, Former Super Eagles Coach Shuaibu Amodu Dies

This is coming three days after legendary Eagles coach and captain Stephen Okechukwu Keshi passed on at theage 54 in Benin city, Edo State.Amodu, a four-time coach of the senior national team, reportedly died in his sleep at his Abuja home Friday night after complaining of chest pains.Until his death, the Edo State-born tactician served as Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and he was also assigned supervisor of the Eagles following the appointment of Salisu Yusuf as interim coach. The former BBC Lions and El Kanemi Warriors coach has the distinction of being the first indigenous coach to qualify the country for the Fifa World Cup when he secured the ticket for the Mundial in Korea/Japan 2002.He repeated the feat for the South Africa 2010 World Cup, but an unsatisfactory performance at the Africa Cup of Nations that year saw him replaced ahead of the tournament proper.Regarded by many as the most technically advanced local coach, Shuaibu also became the first Nigerian to coach a top foreign side following his stint in the South African League with Orlando Pirates in 1999
